1 Chronicles 29:19

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

And giue vnto Solomon my sonne a perfect heart to keepe thy Commaundements, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to doe all these things, and to build the pallace, for the which I haue made prouision. 1 Chronicles 29:19 (KJV)

The book of 1 Chronicles is part of the Old Testament and focuses on the history of Israel, particularly the reign of King David. In chapters 28‑29, David addresses the assembly of leaders and the people of Israel, exhorting them to contribute generously to the building of the temple that his son Solomon would construct.

While 1 Chronicles does not contain a verse 19 in which David explicitly prays for Solomon to be granted a perfect heart, David does emphasize the need for Solomon to have a wholehearted devotion to God (cf. 1 Chronicles 28:9). This reflects David’s concern for the future of the nation and the spiritual well‑being of his son, emphasizing the importance of a heart devoted to God and committed to obeying His commandments.

The phrase “a perfect heart” signifies more than just a faultless character; it speaks of wholehearted devotion and sincerity toward God. David desired that Solomon’s heart would be completely aligned with God’s will and that he would have an unwavering commitment to keeping God’s commandments, testimonies, and statutes.

David understood the significance of obedience to God’s laws and sought this for Solomon. Keeping God’s commandments demonstrates reverence and submission to His authority. David desired that Solomon would follow God’s instructions faithfully, both in his personal life and in his responsibility to build the temple.

In the latter part of his address, David mentions the wealth and resources he has set aside for the construction of the temple, not a palace. This provision refers to the amassed wealth and resources David had allocated for the purpose of building God’s house.
