1 Chronicles 4:32

Listen to this article

“And their villages were Etam, and Ain, Rimmon, and Tochen, and Ashan, five cities.”

1 Chronicles 4:32 is part of a genealogical account that lists the descendants of Judah, who was one of the twelve sons of Jacob. This particular verse highlights the villages or cities that were occupied by the descendants of the clan of Shelah, who was one of the sons of Judah.

Chronicles chapter 4 focuses on the genealogy of the tribe of Judah, specifically tracing the lineage of various families within the tribe. This verse mentions five cities or villages that were inhabited by the descendants of Shelah:

  • Etam: Etam was likely a city located in the territory of Judah. The exact location of Etam is not definitively known, but it is mentioned in other parts of the Bible as well.

Ain:Ain is another village mentioned in this verse. Its specific location is uncertain, but it is believed to be situated within the region of Judah.

Rimmon:Rimmon is the third city listed. It is mentioned elsewhere in the Bible as well, and it is thought to have been located in the southern part of the territory of Judah.

Tochen:Tochen is the fourth city mentioned. Its exact location is not known, and there is limited information available about it.

Ashan:Ashan is the final city listed in this verse. It is also mentioned in other parts of the Bible, and it is believed to have been located in the southern part of Judah.

While this verse may appear straightforward and simply provides a list of cities, it highlights the historical and geographical context of the descendants of Shelah. These cities served as dwelling places for their respective families within the tribe of Judah.
