Listen to this article

“Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it.”

Certainly! Let’s delve into 1 Kings 3:26 from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible.

This verse is found within the account of King Solomon’s famous wisdom and judgment.

Here is the verse in its entirety:

In this passage, two women come before King Solomon, each claiming to be the mother of a child.

The true mother, in her love for her child, pleads with the king to spare the child’s life and not allow it to be divided.

On the other hand, the false claimant suggests dividing the child in order to resolve the dispute.

This story is part of the account that showcases King Solomon’s God‑given wisdom.

In the preceding verses, we learn that the king proposed a solution to discern the true mother.

He suggested dividing the child and giving each woman a half.

The true mother’s compassion and love for her child prompted her to prefer the child’s life over any claim of ownership.

The narrative of this verse demonstrates profound insight into the nature of motherhood and the depth of a mother’s love for her child.

It also highlights Solomon’s wisdom in discerning the truth and rendering a just judgment.

This passage from 1 Kings 3:26 serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of love, compassion, and selflessness.

The true mother’s plea reveals her heart, as her “bowels yearned upon her son.”

Her genuine love and desire to protect her child lead her to request that the child be spared, even if it meant relinquishing her own claim.

Moreover, this story has broader implications beyond the specific incident.

It illustrates the wisdom and discernment that God granted to Solomon, establishing his reputation as a wise ruler.

The account of Solomon’s judgment became widely known, and it showcased his ability to perceive the truth and administer justice.

This verse also encourages us to value and protect the vulnerable, especially children, recognizing the love and care they deserve.

It emphasizes the importance of making decisions that prioritize their well‑being and safeguard their lives.
