1 Peter 1:25
“But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”
Context:The Apostle Peter wrote the first letter of Peter to encourage and strengthen the believers who were facing persecution and trials. In this particular verse, Peter emphasises the enduring nature of God’s Word, highlighting its importance and reliability.
The Word of the Lord:The “word of the Lord” refers to the message or revelation from God. It includes both the spoken word of God and the written Scriptures inspired by the Holy Spirit.
Enduring Forever:Peter affirms that the word of the Lord endures forever. It is unchanging, steadfast, and eternal. Unlike human words that may fade away or lose their significance, God’s Word remains constant and unshakable.
The Gospel:Peter states that the enduring word of the Lord is proclaimed through the gospel. The gospel is the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. It encompasses the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, His teachings, and the redemption offered to all who believe in Him.
Preached unto You:Peter reminds his readers that the gospel, which contains the enduring word of the Lord, has been preached to them. They have heard and received this message of salvation through Christ. The gospel brings hope, transformation, and eternal life to those who embrace it.
- Reliance on God’s Word:We can take comfort in knowing that God’s Word is enduring and unchanging. In a world of shifting opinions and uncertainties, we can trust in the eternal truths found in Scripture.
- Embrace the Gospel:The gospel is the means by which the enduring word of the Lord is preached. As believers, we should continually seek to understand and share the good news of Jesus Christ, knowing that it carries the power to transform lives.
- Trust in God’s Promises:God’s Word contains His promises, which are reliable and true. We can rely on these promises, especially during difficult times, knowing that they will not fail.
Consider how the enduring nature of God’s Word impacts your life. Are you actively seeking to understand and apply the teachings of Scripture? Are you sharing the gospel with others and allowing the enduring word of the Lord to impact their lives as well?
