2 Chronicles 30:21

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

“And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the Lord day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the Lord.”

Context:2 Chronicles 30 recounts the story of King Hezekiah’s efforts to bring about a spiritual revival in the kingdom of Judah. Hezekiah sent messengers throughout Israel and Judah, urging them to return to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. While many mocked the messengers, some from the northern tribes of Israel responded and joined in the celebration of the Passover. Verse 21 specifically focuses on the joyful observance of the Feast of Unleavened Bread by the Israelites in Jerusalem.

Key Themes:

  • Unity and Gathering:Despite the division between the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah, some individuals from the northern tribes heeded the call to gather in Jerusalem. This event demonstrates the potential for unity and the importance of coming together to worship and celebrate God’s feasts.
  • Obedience and Revival:King Hezekiah’s call for the celebration of the Passover was a call to obedience to God’s commandments. The response of the people who gathered in Jerusalem indicates a revival and a renewed commitment to follow God’s ways.
  • Joyful Worship:The passage highlights the atmosphere of great gladness and joy during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. The Levites and the priests led the people in praising the Lord with songs and loud instruments. This emphasizes the importance of joyful worship and expressing gratitude to God for His goodness and deliverance.

Lessons and Application:

  • Unity in Worship:The story of the Feast of Unleavened Bread in 2 Chronicles 30 reminds us of the importance of unity in worship. Despite differences and divisions, God’s people can come together to worship Him. It encourages us to focus on the essentials of our faith and unite in praising God.
  • Obedience to God’s Word:Hezekiah’s call to observe the Passover was a call to obedience to God’s commandments. We are also called to be obedient to God’s Word and follow His instructions. Obedience to God’s Word leads to blessings and spiritual revival.
  • Joyful Worship:The joy and gladness displayed by the Israelites during the Feast of Unleavened Bread teaches us the significance of joyful worship. As we gather to worship God, we should do so with a grateful and joyful heart, expressing our love and adoration for Him.
  • Outreach and Inclusion:Hezekiah’s invitation extended to all, including those from the northern tribes who had previously been alienated from Jerusalem. This highlights the importance of reaching out to others, embracing diversity, and fostering inclusion in our worship communities.

In conclusion, 2 Chronicles 30:21 demonstrates the power of unity, obedience, and joyful worship. It encourages us to come together in worship, obey God’s Word, and approach Him with gladness and gratitude. May we be inspired to cultivate unity, obedience, and joyful worship in our own lives and communities.
