2 Chronicles 4:14

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

He made also bases; and lauers made he vpon the bases. 2 Chronicles 4:14 (KJV)

Historical context: The verse is part of a description of the construction of the temple of Solomon. Solomon, the son of David, was chosen by God to build the temple in Jerusalem, which was to be a permanent dwelling place for the Ark of the Covenant and a center for worship.

Bases and lavers: In this verse, the focus is on the construction of the bases and the lavers. The “bases” refer to the foundation or stands on which the lavers were placed. The “lavers” were large bowls or basins used for the ritual cleansing of the priests and for various other purposes related to the temple worship.

Symbolism: The construction of the bases and lavers carries symbolic significance. In the context of the temple, they represented the importance of purity and cleanliness before God. The lavers served as a reminder to the priests and the people of the need for spiritual cleansing and consecration in their approach to God.

Spiritual lessons: Importance of purity: The construction of the bases and lavers reminds us of the significance of purity in our relationship with God. Just as the priests needed to be ceremonially clean to enter the holy place, we are called to live lives that are morally and spiritually upright before God. Cleansing and consecration: The lavers were used for cleansing and consecrating the priests. Similarly, as believers, we are called to be cleansed and consecrated, set apart for God’s purposes. This involves repentance, seeking forgiveness, and allowing the Holy Spirit to purify our hearts and minds. Preparation for worship: The construction of the bases and lavers also emphasizes the importance of preparing ourselves for worship. Just as the priests had to go through a process of cleansing before approaching the presence of God, we should approach worship with reverence, humility, and a desire to be in a right relationship with Him.

Application: Pursue purity: Strive to live a life that is pleasing to God by adhering to His moral and spiritual standards. Allow the Holy Spirit to convict and guide you in areas where you need to grow in purity. Seek cleansing and consecration: Regularly examine your heart and confess any sins or impurities to God. Seek His forgiveness and allow Him to cleanse and renew you. Dedicate yourself to God’s service and live a life that reflects His holiness. Approach worship with reverence: When engaging in worship, whether individually or corporately, approach it with a reverent attitude. Prepare your heart through prayer, Bible study, and reflection, so that you can worship God in spirit and in truth.
