2 Chronicles 9:2

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

And Solomon tolde her all her questions: and there was nothing hid from Solomon, which he told her not. 2 Chronicles 9:2 (KJV)

The verse belongs to the narrative of the Queen of Sheba’s visit to King Solomon. Sheba is traditionally identified with a region that corresponds to present‑day Ethiopia or Yemen. The queen had heard of Solomon’s famed wisdom and undertook a long, arduous journey to Jerusalem to test him with many hard questions.

Solomon’s wisdom is portrayed as unparalleled. The Scripture records that the queen asked Solomon all her questions and that there was not a single thing hidden from him which he did not disclose. He answered every question to her satisfaction, demonstrating a level of discernment that surpassed all other monarchs of his era. This extraordinary insight was not merely human intellect; it was a divine gift. As recounted in 1 Kings 3:5‑14, Solomon petitioned God for wisdom to govern Israel, and God granted his request, endowing him with extraordinary understanding.

The queen’s journey underscores the widespread reputation of Solomon’s wisdom. Her willingness to travel great distances reflects a deep desire for knowledge and truth, and it highlights how Solomon’s reputation drew seekers from distant lands.

The passage can also be read metaphorically. Just as the Queen of Sheba traveled to Jerusalem seeking wisdom, believers are invited to pursue wisdom and truth in their own lives. Proverbs 9:10 reminds us, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the holy is understanding,” (or “the knowledge of the Holy One is insight” as rendered in some translations).

Application follows naturally: Christians should earnestly seek wisdom through diligent study of God’s Word, prayer for discernment, and counsel from mature believers. Solomon’s example encourages us to ask God for wisdom in our personal circumstances, trusting that He will provide the insight needed for godly living.

In sum, the accounts in 1 Kings 10 and 2 Chronicles 9 highlight Solomon’s exceptional, God‑given wisdom. They exhort us to pursue wisdom and understanding, pointing ultimately to a relationship with God as the supreme source of true insight.
