2 Chronicles 9:3

Posted on 18 May at 11:39

And when the Queene of Sheba had seene the wisedome of Solomon, and the house that he had built, 2 Chronicles 9:3 (KJV)

This verse is part of a larger passage describing the visit of the queen of Sheba to King Solomon. She had heard of Solomon’s great wisdom and his prosperous kingdom, and she came to test him with hard questions (2 Chronicles 9:1). The queen of Sheba wanted to see for herself if the reports about Solomon’s wisdom were true. In verse 2, it is mentioned that the queen of Sheba arrived in Jerusalem with a very great retinue, camels, spices, and a large quantity of gold and precious stones. This indicates that she came with great wealth and sought to honor Solomon. When the queen of Sheba saw the wisdom of Solomon, she was astonished. She witnessed not only Solomon’s wisdom but also the magnificence of the house he had built, generally understood as his royal palace rather than the Temple. Solomon’s wisdom and the grandeur of his palace left a deep impression on the queen of Sheba.

This passage highlights several important aspects:

Wisdom of Solomon: Solomon was renowned for his wisdom, and it was one of the reasons the queen of Sheba was drawn to visit him. The wisdom of Solomon was a gift from God (1 Kings 3:12), and it enabled him to make wise judgments and govern his kingdom effectively.

The Palace of Solomon: The queen of Sheba marveled at the splendour of the palace built by Solomon. The construction of the palace was a significant achievement in Israel’s history, and it symbolized the wealth and power of the nation.

Recognition and Honor: The queen of Sheba’s visit and her acknowledgment of Solomon’s wisdom and the palace’s magnificence demonstrate the honor and respect given to Solomon. Her arrival with lavish gifts further highlights the admiration and esteem she had for him.

The story of the queen of Sheba’s visit to Solomon serves as an example of how God’s wisdom and blessings can attract others and bring honor to His chosen people. It also emphasizes the importance of using wisdom and resources to honor God and build His kingdom.

Overall, 2 Chronicles 9:3 portrays the awe‑inspiring encounter between the queen of Sheba and King Solomon, emphasizing the wisdom of Solomon and the grandeur of the palace he had constructed.
