Chapter 35 of 2 Chronicles in the King James Version of the Bible portrays the story of Josiah, the righteous king of Judah, and his observance of the Passover. The chapter begins with Josiah instructing the Levites to prepare themselves for the Passover, as he had discovered the Book of the Law and realized how the people had strayed from God's commandments. He generously provides animals for sacrifices and encourages the Levites to carry out their duties diligently.
On the day of the Passover, the sacrifices are offered, and everyone participates in the feast. Josiah personally contributes a significant number of animals for the Passover offerings. The Levites, including the singers and gatekeepers, fulfill their roles as prescribed by David and Solomon. The Passover celebration is characterized by great rejoicing, with both the people and the leaders of Judah participating wholeheartedly.
However, despite Josiah's efforts to honor God and observe the Passover faithfully, the chapter ends on a somber note. The Egyptian king, Necho, who is on his way to battle, confronts Josiah. Disregarding Josiah's warning that God is against him, Necho proceeds with his plans, and Josiah is fatally wounded in the ensuing battle.
