2 Kings 12:1

Posted on 18 May at 11:40

“In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Zibiah of Beersheba.”

Context:2 Kings is a book in the Old Testament that continues the historical account of the kings of Israel and Judah. In this verse, we are introduced to Jehoash (also known as Joash), who became the king of Judah. Jehoash’s reign begins in the seventh year of Jehu, who was the king of Israel.

Key Points:Jehoash’s Reign:Jehoash reigned for forty years in Jerusalem. His reign was a significant period in the history of Judah. Jehoash ascended to the throne at a young age, and his rule brought a measure of stability and reform to the kingdom. He was a righteous king who sought to restore the temple and address issues of neglect. Zibiah, his mother:The verse also mentions Jehoash’s mother, whose name was Zibiah. She hailed from Beersheba, a town in the southern part of Judah. While the Bible does not provide extensive details about Zibiah, it is worth noting that the mention of the king’s mother was a common way to establish the king’s lineage and provide context for his reign.
