2 Kings Chapter 18

Summery

In 2 Kings 18, we read about Hezekiah, the son of Ahaz, who becomes king of Judah. Hezekiah was known for his righteousness and devotion to God. He removed the idolatrous practices that had been introduced by his father and trusted in the Lord.

During his reign, the Assyrian king, Sennacherib, invaded Judah and besieged the fortified cities. Hezekiah sends word to the Assyrian king, offering to pay a tribute in exchange for peace. However, Sennacherib demands a much larger sum and threatens to conquer Jerusalem.

Hezekiah seeks guidance from the prophet Isaiah, who assures him that God will deliver Jerusalem from the Assyrians. Hezekiah prays to God, expressing his trust and asking for deliverance. In response, Isaiah receives a message from the Lord, promising that Sennacherib will not succeed in capturing the city.

God fulfills His promise, as the Angel of the Lord strikes down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in a single night. Sennacherib is forced to retreat and return to his own land, where he is eventually assassinated.

Hezekiah's faith and reliance on God result in the deliverance of Jerusalem and the defeat of the Assyrian army.
