Title: The Rediscovery of God's Law: 2 Kings 22 (KJV) Summary
In the eighteenth year of King Josiah's reign, a significant event took place in the kingdom of Judah. This event marked a turning point in the spiritual history of the nation. The king's heart was inclined towards seeking God, leading him to embark on a mission to restore the temple of the Lord.
During the restoration work, the high priest Hilkiah discovered the Book of the Law in the temple. This sacred book, containing God's instructions and covenant with His people, had been lost and neglected for years. Recognizing the importance of this discovery, Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan the scribe, who then brought it before King Josiah.
Upon hearing the words of the Law, Josiah tore his clothes in anguish, realizing how far the nation had strayed from God's commands. He sought guidance from the prophetess Huldah, who confirmed that judgment was inevitable due to the people's disobedience. However, she assured Josiah that God would delay His wrath because of his sincere repentance.
Motivated by his newfound understanding, King Josiah gathered the elders, priests, prophets, and all the people, making a covenant before the Lord. He read aloud the Book of the Law to everyone present, committing to follow its teachings and commandments. The people, in turn, pledged their allegiance to the covenant.
