According as his diuine power hath giuen vnto vs all things that pertain vnto life and godlines, through the knowledge of him that hath called vs to glory and vertue. 2 Peter 1:3 (KJV)

The Second Epistle of Peter is traditionally attributed to the Apostle Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, and was written to early Christian communities. This verse opens the letter and sets the tone by highlighting God’s power and His provision for believers.

Divine Power: The passage begins by acknowledging the divine power of God. It emphasizes that everything needed for life and godliness has been provided by God Himself, underscoring His sovereignty and authority over the believer’s spiritual condition.

All Things: The text states that God has given us “all things” that pertain to life and godliness. This comprehensive provision covers the spiritual necessities required for a godly walk and reflects the fullness of God’s care for His people.

Knowledge of Him: The verse explains that these provisions come through the knowledge of Him who has called us. A personal, intimate relationship with God—knowing Him through Jesus Christ—is presented as the means by which believers receive these blessings.

Called to Glory and Virtue: The passage notes that God has called us to glory and virtue. This calling invites believers to live in a manner that reflects God’s glory and exhibits moral excellence, a theme that runs throughout the epistle.

Overall, 2 Peter 1:3 reassures believers that God, by His divine power and grace, has supplied everything necessary for a life of godliness. It encourages a deeper relationship with Him, urging Christians to align their conduct with the divine calling to glory and virtue, and to trust in the sufficiency of God’s provision for every aspect of their spiritual journey.
