2 Samuel Chapter 6

Summery

In 2 Samuel 6, King David makes preparations to bring the Ark of God to Jerusalem. He gathers 30,000 chosen men of Israel and sets out to retrieve the Ark from Baale of Judah. They place the Ark on a new cart and begin the journey. Along the way, when the oxen pulling the cart stumble, Uzzah reaches out his hand to steady the Ark, but God strikes him dead for touching it. David becomes afraid and decides to halt the procession, and the Ark is left at the house of Obed-Edom for three months.

After hearing that Obed-Edom's household has been blessed during this time, David decides to continue bringing the Ark to Jerusalem. This time, they carry the Ark on their shoulders, with priests offering sacrifices along the way. David dances before the Lord with all his might, wearing a linen ephod, and leads the people in rejoicing and playing musical instruments. Michal, David's wife, observes him from a window and despises him for his undignified behavior.

As the Ark is brought into Jerusalem, David offers sacrifices and blesses the people. He distributes food and gifts among them and returns to his household. Michal confronts him, criticizing his actions, but David defends himself, explaining that he danced before the Lord with a humble heart. The chapter concludes with the note that Michal remains childless for the rest of her life.
