Joshua 18:15

Posted on 18 October 2024
Listen to this article

“And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjath-jearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah.”

This verse is part of the description of the southern boundary of the territory allotted to the tribe of Benjamin in the Promised Land. Joshua 18:records the division of the land among the remaining seven tribes after the initial conquest led by Joshua.

Kirjath-jearim:The verse begins by mentioning Kirjath-jearim, which was a city located on the western border of the tribe of Judah. It was situated approximately nine miles west of Jerusalem. The presence of this city in the boundary description signifies a reference point for establishing the southern limit of Benjamin’s territory.

The border to the west:The verse continues by stating that the border went out on the west:from Kirjath-jearim. This implies that the boundary line extended westward from the city.

The well of waters of Nephtoah:The verse concludes by mentioning the well of waters of Nephtoah:as the point where the border ultimately reached. Nephtoah was a location known for its abundant water source, which was likely essential for sustenance and survival in the region.

Overall, Joshua 18:15:provides a geographical reference to the southern border of the land allotted to the tribe of Benjamin, starting from Kirjath-jearim and extending westward to the well of waters of Nephtoah:This verse highlights the meticulousness with which the division of the Promised Land was carried out under Joshua’s leadership, ensuring that each tribe received their designated portion as promised by God.
