1 Chronicles 29:23

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

Then Solomon sate on the throne of the Lord, as king in stead of Dauid his father, and prospered, and all Israel obeyed him. 1 Chronicles 29:23 (KJV)

Context: This verse is part of the concluding section of 1 Chronicles, which describes the preparations made by King David for the construction of the temple and the transfer of the kingdom to his son Solomon. It highlights Solomon’s ascension to the throne and the obedience of the people of Israel to their new king.

Solomon’s Accession to the Throne: After King David’s death, Solomon succeeded him and assumed the role of king. This transition marked a significant moment in Israel’s history as Solomon became the third king of Israel, following Saul and David. The verse emphasizes that Solomon sat on the throne “instead of David his father,” indicating the orderly succession of the monarchy.

Solomon’s Prosperity: The verse further states that Solomon prospered as king. This prosperity can be understood in various ways, including political stability, military success, and economic growth. Solomon’s reign was characterized by peace and prosperity, enabling him to undertake significant building projects, such as the construction of the temple in Jerusalem.

Israel’s Obedience: The verse concludes by stating that “all Israel obeyed him.” This highlights the widespread acceptance and submission of the people to Solomon’s authority. Obedience to the king was crucial for maintaining stability and unity within the nation. The verse reflects the positive response of the Israelites to Solomon’s leadership, ensuring a smooth transition of power.
