Psalms 34:7

Listen to this article

“The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.”

Context:Psalms 34 is attributed to King David when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech, the king of Gath. It is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving to God for His deliverance and protection.

The Angel of the LORD:In the Old Testament, the Angel of the LORD is a divine figure who appears on various occasions to deliver God’s messages or carry out His purposes. The identity of the Angel of the LORD is often associated with a theophany, a visible manifestation of God Himself. This angel represents the presence and power of God.

Encampeth round about them that fear Him:The psalmist declares that the Angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear God. This imagery portrays the idea of protection and provision. Just as an army sets up a camp to guard and defend its people, the Angel of the LORD surrounds and shields those who revere and worship Him.

Delivereth them:The Angel of the LORD not only provides protection but also delivers those who fear God. This deliverance can take various forms, such as rescuing from physical dangers, guiding in times of uncertainty, providing strength in times of weakness, or granting spiritual salvation.

The Fear of the LORD:The psalmist highlights that this divine protection and deliverance are available specifically to those who fear the LORD. Fearing God does not imply being terrified of Him, but rather having reverential awe, respect, and obedience towards Him. It involves recognizing God’s sovereignty, His authority over our lives, and aligning our actions with His will.

Application:Psalms 34:7 encourages believers to trust in God’s protection and deliverance. It assures us that when we fear and honor the LORD, His angelic presence surrounds us, providing a sense of security. This verse reminds us to cultivate a deep reverence for God, seeking to live in obedience to His Word and relying on His guidance and care in all aspects of life.

  • Overall, Psalms 34:7 affirms the comforting truth that God’s angelic presence encompasses those who fear Him, ensuring their deliverance and safety. It reminds us to rely on God’s protection and live with a reverent heart towards Him.
