Psalms 50:23

Posted on 18 May at 15:16

“Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.”

Context and Background:The book of Psalms is a collection of poetic and lyrical writings attributed to King David and other writers. It contains a variety of themes, including praise, thanksgiving, lamentation, and wisdom. Psalm 50 is attributed to Asaph, one of David’s chief musicians.

In this particular verse, God is speaking and addressing His people, emphasizing the importance of true worship, right living, and the ultimate revelation of His salvation.

Offering Praise Glorifies God:The verse begins with the statement, “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me.” It highlights the significance of praising and worshiping God. Praise is an act of recognizing and acknowledging God’s greatness, goodness, and faithfulness. It involves expressing gratitude, adoration, and exaltation toward Him. By offering praise, we bring glory to God and honor His name.

Praising God is not limited to singing hymns or attending church services but extends to every area of our lives. It involves having a heart filled with gratitude and an attitude of worship in all circumstances. Whether through prayer, music, words, or actions, our praise can glorify God and reflect His character to the world.

Ordering Our Conversation Aright:The verse continues, “and to him that ordereth his conversation aright.” Here, the term “conversation” refers to one’s conduct, behavior, or way of life. It encompasses our actions, words, and overall lifestyle.

To “order” our conversation aright means to live in accordance with God’s principles, walking in righteousness and integrity. It involves aligning our thoughts, words, and actions with His will and purpose. It implies living a life that is pleasing to God, characterized by obedience, love, and justice.

Our relationship with God should impact how we interact with others and the choices we make in our daily lives. When we seek to live in harmony with God’s Word and follow His guidance, our conversation reflects our commitment to Him.

The Revelation of God’s Salvation:The verse concludes with the promise, “will I show the salvation of God.” When we offer praise and glorify God, and when we order our conversation aright, God promises to reveal His salvation to us. Salvation refers to God’s deliverance, forgiveness, and restoration of our relationship with Him.

By seeking God and living in obedience, we position ourselves to experience His saving grace. He unveils His salvation through various means, including His Word, the working of His Spirit, and the manifestation of His power in our lives. God’s salvation encompasses not only eternal life but also His provision, protection, and guidance in our earthly journey.
