Psalms 50:23

Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

Psalms 50:23 (KJV)

Psalm 50 comes from Asaph, one of David’s chief musicians. In this psalm, God Himself speaks to His people, calling them to true worship and right living. Verse 23 is the closing exhortation, summarizing the whole message: genuine worship is not mere ceremony but heartfelt praise and a rightly ordered life. The psalm contrasts empty ritual with sincere devotion, showing that God desires more than outward forms.

The verse begins, “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me.” Praise is more than words; it is the sacrifice of thanksgiving, which honors God more than empty offerings. The second part promises that to the one who “ordereth his conversation aright”—that is, who orders his conduct and manner of living according to God’s Word—God will show His salvation. This salvation is not only a future hope but the present experience of God’s deliverance and favor for those who walk in obedience. The verse links worship and obedience: praise glorifies God, and a rightly ordered life positions one to receive the revelation of His salvation.

The broader context of Psalm 50 contrasts empty ritual with sincere devotion. God desires thanksgiving and a life that honors Him. This verse serves as the fitting conclusion, calling God’s people to offer the sacrifice of praise and to live in a way that reflects their devotion. The connection between praise and obedience runs throughout Scripture, reminding us that true worship involves the whole person.

Praising God is not limited to singing or attending services. It extends to every area of life, involving a heart of gratitude and an attitude of worship in all circumstances. Ordering our conversation aright means aligning our thoughts, words, and actions with God’s will, living in righteousness and integrity. Our relationship with God should shape how we treat others and the choices we make daily. When we offer praise and live obediently, God promises to reveal His salvation to us. He unveils His saving grace through His Word, the work of His Spirit, and His power in our lives. This salvation includes eternal life as well as His provision, protection, and guidance in our earthly journey.

Let us offer the sacrifice of praise and live in a way that reflects our devotion to Him. Consider your own pattern of worship. Does your daily conduct match the praise you offer? God sees both the heart and the life. He calls us to a worship that is genuine, rooted in gratitude, and expressed through obedience. As we order our lives according to His Word, we open ourselves to the fullness of His salvation, experiencing His deliverance and favor now and forever.
