Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I teare you in pieces, and there be none to deliuer. Psalms 50:22 (KJV)

Psalm 50 is a psalm of Asaph, one of the chief musicians and writers of the Psalms who served during the time of King David. This psalm is a call to worship and a reminder of God’s justice and righteousness. In verse 22 God addresses those who forget Him, using the phrase “consider this” to invite the people to reflect upon what He is about to say.

The expression “ye that forget God” refers to those who have disregarded God, neglected His commandments, and have chosen to live apart from Him. It implies a state of spiritual forgetfulness or ignorance. Such forgetfulness can manifest in various ways, such as neglecting prayer, disregarding His Word, or pursuing worldly desires above God’s will.

The latter part of the verse delivers a stark warning: God will “tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.” This imagery portrays the severe judgment and punishment that awaits those who persistently ignore God and reject His ways. The phrase “tear you in pieces” signifies God’s righteous judgment, the destruction of those who have turned away from Him, while “none to deliver” indicates that once judgment is executed there will be no escape or rescue.

The warning underscores the importance of turning to God and seeking His forgiveness and grace while there is still time. Psalm 50:22 therefore serves as a powerful reminder of the consequences of forgetting God. It calls individuals to reflect on their relationship with Him, to realign their lives with His will, and to seek His mercy before it is too late.

As with any study of the Bible, it is essential to consider the broader context of the verse and to explore related passages in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of God’s message.
