Psalms 86:7

Listen to this article

“In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.”

1. Context of the Psalm: Psalm 86 is attributed to David and is a prayer for deliverance and protection.

David acknowledges God as his Lord and seeks His mercy and help.

The psalm expresses David’s deep trust in God’s character and faithfulness.

2. “In the day of my trouble”: David acknowledges that trouble is a part of life. We all face challenges, trials, and difficult situations.

David’s troubles varied throughout his life, including battles with enemies, personal struggles, and times of distress.

This verse teaches us that when trouble comes, we should turn to God.

3. “I will call upon thee”: David’s response to trouble is to call upon God. He recognizes that God is the source of help and strength.

Calling upon God implies seeking Him in prayer, expressing our needs, and seeking His guidance and intervention.

It shows David’s reliance on God rather than his own abilities or resources.

4. “For thou wilt answer me”: David expresses his confidence in God’s faithfulness and his assurance that God will answer his prayers.

David had experienced God’s faithfulness in the past, and he expects God to respond to his cry for help.

This verse teaches us that God is attentive to the cries of His people and will respond to their genuine prayers.

5. Application: Like David, we should turn to God in times of trouble. He is always available and ready to listen to our prayers.

We can trust that God will answer us, although the answer may not always come in the way we expect or on our preferred timeline.

This verse encourages us to cultivate a habit of seeking God’s guidance, strength, and deliverance in all circumstances.

It reminds us to approach God with faith and confidence, knowing that He hears our prayers and cares for us.
