Psalms 105:3

Posted on 18 May at 15:14

“Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.”

1. Context: Psalm 105 is a psalm of thanksgiving and praise to God, recalling His wondrous works and faithfulness to His people. It emphasizes the importance of seeking the Lord and rejoicing in His name. The psalmist invites the readers to give glory to God and rejoice in Him.

Psalm 105:3 (KJV) says: “Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD.”

2. Glory in His holy name: "Glory ye in his holy name" encourages believers to honor and exalt the name of the Lord. The name of God signifies His character, attributes, and divine nature. It is a call to recognize the greatness, holiness, and worthiness of God. As His people, we should acknowledge His majesty and give Him the honor and praise that is due.

3. Rejoice in seeking the Lord: The psalmist further states, "let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD." This verse emphasizes the joy that comes from seeking the Lord. To seek the Lord means to pursue a relationship with Him, to earnestly desire His presence, guidance, and wisdom. It involves seeking Him in prayer, studying His Word, and living according to His commands. When we genuinely seek the Lord, our hearts will be filled with joy and gladness.

4. Application: – Giving glory to God: We should acknowledge and honor the name of the Lord in our lives. We can do this through praise, worship, and living in a way that reflects His character and values.

– Rejoicing in seeking the Lord: As we seek the Lord, we will experience His presence, guidance, and blessings. It is important to approach our relationship with God with joy and a heart of gratitude, knowing that He desires to reveal Himself to us.

5. Additional verses: – Psalm 34:3 (KJV): "O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together." This verse echoes the sentiment of giving glory to God and exalting His name.

– Matthew 6:33 (KJV): "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." This verse emphasizes the priority of seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness, and the promise of God’s provision when we do so.
