I will speake of the glorious honour of thy maiestie: and of thy wonderous workes. Psalms 145:5 (KJV)

Psalm 145 is a psalm of praise written by King David. It is an acrostic composition, with each verse beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and it centers on praising God’s greatness, character, and works. The psalmist declares his intention to extol the Lord, saying, “I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever,” and also, “My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever.” He affirms that God’s majesty encompasses His greatness, splendor, and sovereign authority, and that believers are called to acknowledge and exalt this majestic nature in their lives.

The psalmist further expresses a desire to speak of God’s wondrous works. These works refer to the miraculous deeds recorded throughout Scripture, such as the creation of the universe, the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Recognizing and proclaiming these wondrous works strengthens faith and inspires others to seek the Lord.

Application:

  • a. Praise and Worship – Like the psalmist, we should cultivate a heart of praise and worship for God. Intentionally speaking of His glorious honour and recounting His wondrous works can be done through personal prayer, singing hymns and worship songs, or sharing testimonies of God’s faithfulness.
  • b. Gratitude and Thanksgiving – Reflecting on God’s glorious honour and wondrous works should lead us to gratitude. By consciously acknowledging God’s blessings, provision, and intervention, we develop an attitude of thanksgiving that maintains a positive perspective and deepens our relationship with Him.
  • c. Witnessing and Evangelism – Sharing about God’s glorious honour and wondrous works provides a powerful opportunity for evangelism. Our personal experiences and encounters with God become tools to testify to His goodness and invite others to experience His love and salvation.
