The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are ouer all his workes. Psalms 145:9 (KJV)

Psalm 145 is a psalm of praise and thanksgiving to God. It is attributed to David and is an acrostic psalm, though it contains a gap in the Hebrew alphabet sequence as the letter “Nun” (נ) is missing. This particular verse, verse 9, emphasizes the goodness and mercy of God towards all His creation.

The verse begins by proclaiming that “The Lord is good to all.” This highlights the fundamental nature of God’s character. God is inherently good, and His goodness extends to all people. His goodness is not limited to a select few but is available to everyone. It reflects His love, kindness, and benevolence towards His creation.

The verse goes on to say that God’s “tender mercies are over all His works.” God’s mercy refers to His compassionate and forgiving nature. It is a demonstration of His love and willingness to extend forgiveness and grace to those who turn to Him. God’s mercy is not limited but extends to all His works, encompassing all of creation.

Understanding that God is good to all reminds us that His love is not partial or exclusive. God’s love extends to every individual, regardless of background, ethnicity, or social standing. This encourages us to imitate His example by showing love and kindness to all people.

Recognizing that God’s tender mercies are over all His works gives us hope and assurance. No matter how great our sins or mistakes, we can approach God with confidence, knowing that His mercy is available to us. It reminds us that God is ready to forgive and restore those who seek Him with a repentant heart.

As God’s works, we have a responsibility to reflect His goodness and mercy in our own lives. We are called to be good stewards of God’s creation and to treat others with love and kindness. Just as God’s goodness extends to all, we should strive to demonstrate His love to everyone we encounter.
