Ezekiel 41:8

I saw also the height of the house round about; the foundations of the side-chambers were a full reede of sixe great cubites. Ezekiel 41:8 (KJV)

Ezekiel 41:8 (KJV) states: ‘And the chamber that was in the side of the house was one cubit on this side, and one cubit on that side, round about the house; and the chambers of the house were in the side of the house round about.’ In this passage, Ezekiel describes the temple in his vision, including details about chambers and measurements. The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament, containing visions and messages from God to the prophet Ezekiel. In this particular verse, Ezekiel is describing the measurements and details of the temple that he sees in a vision. The length of the chambers was in the inner court a fifty cubits: and, behold, before the temple were a hundred cubits. He mentions various chambers and rooms in the inner court of the temple. The inner court mentioned in the verse refers to the area within the temple complex, which is separate from the outer court. The inner court is a sacred space reserved for the priests and designated for specific religious activities. The cubit, a common ancient Near Eastern measurement approximately equal to the distance from the elbow to the middle finger tip (18-20 inches), is used throughout these descriptions.

Fifty Cubits: The length of the chambers in the inner court is given as fifty cubits.

A Hundred Cubits: The verse goes on to say that before the temple, there were a hundred cubits. This measurement likely refers to an open area or courtyard in front of the temple.

Ezekiel’s temple vision includes symbolic elements that convey deeper spiritual truths. The temple represents God’s dwelling place among His people, emphasizing holiness and reverence. As believers, we can draw spiritual lessons from this verse and the larger context of the book of Ezekiel. This reminds us of the importance of maintaining reverence and purity in our own lives as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

For a fuller understanding of Ezekiel’s message, studying the entire book is recommended.
