Mark 13:32

Posted on 18 May at 14:43

“But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.”

Context:This verse is part of a larger discourse by Jesus known as the Olivet Discourse, where He speaks about the future events surrounding His second coming and the end times. In this specific verse, Jesus emphasizes that no one knows the exact timing of His return, not even the angels in heaven or even the Son Himself. Only the Father knows.

Here are a few key points to consider when studying this verse:

  • Human Limitations:Jesus acknowledges that as a human being, He does not possess the knowledge of the day and hour of His return. This verse affirms the limitations of His earthly ministry and the fact that His divine knowledge is subject to the Father’s will.
  • The Father’s Sovereignty:By stating that only the Father knows the timing of His return, Jesus highlights the sovereignty and omniscience of God. It reaffirms that the Father has complete authority over the unfolding of events and that His plan will be executed in His perfect timing.
  • Implications for Believers:The fact that the exact timing of Jesus’ return is unknown serves as a reminder for believers to always be watchful and prepared. Jesus urges His followers to be vigilant and faithful, emphasizing the need for readiness rather than speculating about the exact timing of the end times.
  • The Mystery of God’s Timing:The verse also underscores the mysterious nature of God’s timing and His divine purposes. While many signs and prophecies may indicate the general season of Jesus’ return, the precise day and hour remain hidden from humanity. This highlights the importance of trust and reliance on God’s wisdom and guidance in all aspects of life.

Overall, Mark 13:32 conveys a powerful message about the limits of human knowledge and the sovereignty of God. It encourages believers to stay alert and faithfully live out their lives, knowing that God is in control of the future and that His timing is perfect.
