Luke 8:43
“And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any.”
In this verse, we encounter a story of a woman who suffered from a condition of chronic bleeding for a period of twelve years. Let’s explore the significance of this passage and extract some key insights from it.
Persistence in Seeking Healing:The woman’s condition had persisted for a prolonged period of time, and she had spent all her resources seeking medical help, yet she remained unhealed. This speaks to the desperation and determination she had in her pursuit of healing. Despite facing disappointment after disappointment, she did not give up hope and continued her quest for a solution.
Faith in Jesus’ Healing Power:In the subsequent verses, we learn that the woman approached Jesus amidst a large crowd and believed that if she could just touch the fringe of His garment, she would be healed. Her faith in Jesus’ ability to bring about healing was so strong that she thought a mere touch would be enough. This demonstrates the profound trust and belief she had in Jesus’ divine power.
Touching Jesus’ Garment:When the woman reached out and touched the fringe of Jesus’ garment, she was instantly healed. Jesus sensed power going out from Him and inquired who had touched Him. The woman, fearing and trembling, came forward and confessed that it was she who had touched Him. Jesus responded with compassion, assuring her that her faith had made her well.
Faith and Healing:This account emphasizes the connection between faith and healing. The woman’s faith played a pivotal role in her restoration. It was not merely the physical act of touching Jesus’ garment but the faith she exhibited that brought about her healing. Jesus acknowledged the importance of her faith and affirmed its role in her miraculous recovery.
Personal Encounter and Acknowledgment:Jesus made a deliberate effort to address the woman, ensuring that she did not remain anonymous in the midst of the crowd. He wanted to personally acknowledge her faith and provide her with comfort and assurance. This act reveals Jesus’ compassion and willingness to engage with individuals at a personal level.
Overall, Luke 8:43 teaches us about the power of persistent faith in Jesus’ ability to bring healing and restoration. It underscores the significance of personal encounters with Jesus and the compassion He extends to those who seek Him in faith.
