Luke 19:31

This verse occurs as Jesus sends two of His disciples ahead of Him to a village, instructing them to find a colt tied there. Jesus tells them that when they untie the colt, if anyone asks them why they are doing so, they should respond by saying that the Lord has need of it.

This particular event is significant because it fulfills the prophecy found in Zechariah 9:9, which says, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.” By entering Jerusalem riding on a colt, Jesus explicitly presents Himself as the Messiah and fulfills this prophecy.

In this verse, we see the obedience of the disciples to Jesus’ instructions. They didn’t question or doubt His command but acted promptly. It also reveals Jesus’ authority as the Lord, for He knows what will happen and orchestrates events accordingly.
