I thanke my God alwayes on your behalfe, for the grace of God which is giuen you by Iesus Christ, 1 Corinthians 1:4 (KJV)

The book of 1 Corinthians was written by the apostle Paul to address a variety of issues and concerns within the church at Corinth. In this opening verse Paul pauses to express his heartfelt gratitude to God for the grace that has been poured out on the believers there through Jesus Christ.

Paul’s gratitude is expressed repeatedly—he thanks God “always on your behalf.” By highlighting that his thanksgiving is directed toward the Corinthians, Paul underscores the importance of continual gratitude in the life of a believer. Recognizing and appreciating the blessings we receive from God cultivates a deeper relationship with Him and models a thankful posture for the whole community.

The reason for Paul’s thankfulness is the grace of God. Grace, defined as unmerited favor and loving‑kindness, is extended toward humanity apart from any works we can claim. Through God’s grace we receive salvation, forgiveness, and every spiritual blessing. Paul makes clear that this grace has been given specifically to the Corinthians, and that it is a gift that flows from the very character of God.

Paul further emphasizes that this grace is delivered to us through Jesus Christ. Christ is the mediator between God and humanity; His sacrificial death and victorious resurrection open the way for believers to receive God’s favor. By identifying Jesus as the channel of grace, Paul points to the centrality of Christ in the Christian faith and reminds readers that all divine blessings are accessed through Him.

In summary, 1 Corinthians 1:4 calls believers to a posture of gratitude for the grace of God that is given through Jesus Christ. It serves as a reminder to continually give thanks, to recognize the source of every spiritual blessing, and to rely on Christ as the means by which God’s grace reaches us.
