Listen to this article

“Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Context:The book of 2 Corinthians was written by the apostle Paul to the church in Corinth, addressing various issues and providing instructions for Christian living. In this verse, Paul begins his letter by expressing his desire for grace and peace for the believers from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Grace:The word “grace” in this verse refers to the unmerited favour, kindness, and divine assistance that God extends towards His people. It is through God’s grace that believers are saved and receive blessings and spiritual gifts. Paul emphasises the importance of God’s grace throughout his writings, highlighting that it is by God’s grace that believers are reconciled to Him and empowered to live a life of holiness.

Peace:The word “peace” refers to the tranquility and well-being that comes from being in a right relationship with God. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, believers can have peace with God, having their sins forgiven and being reconciled to Him. This peace surpasses human understanding and provides comfort and assurance in the midst of trials and challenges.

Source of Grace and Peace:Paul emphasises that grace and peace come from both God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. This highlights the divine nature of grace and peace, as they originate from the Triune God. It also underscores the unity between the Father and the Son in bestowing these blessings upon believers.
