Listen to this article

“But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things.”

Historical Context:The Apostle Paul wrote the book of Ephesians while he was in prison, and he addressed it to the believers in Ephesus, a city in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). In this particular verse, Paul mentions Tychicus, who was a fellow Christian and a trusted companion of Paul. Tychicus is mentioned in several of Paul’s letters as someone who traveled and delivered messages on Paul’s behalf.

  • Importance of Communication:

Paul emphasizes the importance of communication in this verse. He desires that the Ephesian believers have an understanding of his circumstances, which would enable them to pray for him and provide support. Tychicus is appointed as the bearer of this information, as he is described as a “beloved brother and faithful minister.” This verse highlights the significance of keeping fellow believers informed about one’s well-being and ministry, fostering unity and support within the body of Christ.

Brotherly Love:Paul refers to Tychicus as a “beloved brother.” This demonstrates the strong bond and affection that existed among the early Christians. The early church was characterized by a deep sense of familial love, where believers were not just acquaintances but brothers and sisters in Christ. This term emphasizes the importance of cultivating love and unity within the Christian community, treating one another with kindness and respect.

Faithful Minister:Tychicus is described as a “faithful minister in the Lord.” This indicates that Tychicus was not only a trusted messenger but also someone who faithfully served God and ministered to the needs of others. The term “minister” suggests that Tychicus was actively involved in serving the church and its members. It serves as a reminder that every believer has a role to play in the service of God and His people, using their gifts and abilities for the benefit of others.

Application to Our Lives:Ephesians 6:21 encourages us to prioritize communication and support within the body of Christ. We should endeavour to keep our fellow believers informed about our circumstances and ministries, allowing them to offer prayer and encouragement. It also reminds us to cultivate a sense of brotherly love, treating other believers as family members, and showing kindness and care towards one another. Furthermore, we are called to be faithful ministers, actively serving God and others, using our talents and gifts for His glory.

In conclusion, Ephesians 6:21 reminds us of the significance of communication, brotherly love, and faithful service within the body of Christ. It encourages us to maintain open lines of communication with fellow believers, support one another, and faithfully serve God and His people.
