2 Peter 3:18

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”

Grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen.

05:26:41

Certainly! Let’s do a Bible study on 2 Peter 3:18 in the King James Version:

  • Context:The book of 2 Peter was written by the apostle Peter, one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ. In this letter, Peter addresses the believers and warns them about false teachers and their destructive teachings. He emphasizes the importance of knowing and growing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and encourages them to live godly lives in anticipation of the Lord’s return.
  • Growing in Grace:The verse begins with the exhortation to grow in grace. Grace, in the biblical sense, refers to the unmerited favour and love of God extended towards humanity. It is through God’s grace that we are saved and justified by faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). As believers, we are called to continually grow in our understanding and experience of God’s grace. This growth involves maturing spiritually, becoming more Christ‑like in character, and manifesting the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
  • Growing in Knowledge:Peter also urges believers to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Knowledge here implies a deep, intimate, and experiential understanding of who Jesus is, His teachings, His redemptive work, and His character. This knowledge is not merely intellectual but encompasses a personal relationship with Christ. It involves studying the Scriptures, seeking God’s wisdom, and being led by the Holy Spirit in our pursuit of knowing Christ more fully.
  • Purpose of Growth:The purpose of growing in grace and knowledge is to become more Christ‑like and to align our lives with God’s will. This growth enables us to resist false teachings, to discern truth from error, and to mature in our faith. It equips us to serve God effectively and be a witness to others. By growing in grace and knowledge, we develop a deeper appreciation for the Lord’s work in our lives and bring glory to Him.
  • Doxology:The verse concludes with a doxology, which is a declaration of praise to God. Peter ascribes glory to the Lord both now and forever. This acknowledgment of God’s glory emphasizes His eternal nature, His sovereignty, and His deserving of praise at all times.
