Revelation 7:16

Posted on 18 May at 14:21
Listen to this article

“They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.”

Context:The book of Revelation is the last book of the New Testament and contains a series of visions and prophecies given to the apostle John. In this particular verse, John sees a vision of a great multitude of people from every nation, standing before the throne of God.

Symbolism:The verse uses symbolic language to describe the condition of the redeemed before the throne of God. Let’s break down the different elements:

  • “They shall hunger no more”: This signifies that the people in this vision will have their spiritual hunger satisfied. In the presence of God, they will lack nothing and be completely fulfilled.
  • “Neither thirst any more”: Similar to the previous point, this indicates that the redeemed will have all their spiritual needs met. They will no longer experience spiritual thirst or longing.
  • “Neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat”: In biblical symbolism, the sun and heat often represent suffering and hardship. This phrase suggests that the redeemed will be free from all suffering, pain, and distress. They will dwell in a place of eternal peace and rest.

Spiritual significance:This verse offers a glimpse into the future hope of believers. It reassures them that in the presence of God, all their needs will be fully satisfied. It speaks of a state of complete contentment, free from physical and spiritual lack. It also highlights the idea that in God’s presence, all suffering will cease, and there will be everlasting peace and rest.

Application:While the ultimate fulfilment of this verse lies in the future, it holds valuable lessons for believers today:

  • Trust in God’s provision:Just as the verse assures that the redeemed will hunger and thirst no more, we can trust that God will meet our needs in this life. He is our provider, and He knows what we require.
  • Seek spiritual fulfilment:As believers, we should strive to deepen our relationship with God and find spiritual satisfaction in Him. Our hunger and thirst for righteousness can be satisfied through prayer, studying the Word of God, and cultivating a life of obedience.
  • Find comfort in the hope of eternity:When faced with trials and suffering, we can find comfort in the hope of eternal life. The promise of Revelation 7:16 reminds us that there will be a day when all pain and suffering will cease, and we will experience eternal peace in the presence of God.

In conclusion, Revelation 7:16 (KJV) offers a glimpse into the future state of the redeemed, where their needs will be fully satisfied, and suffering will be no more. It encourages believers to trust in God’s provision, seek spiritual fulfilment, and find comfort in the hope of eternal life.
