Revelation 7:16

They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

Revelation 7:16 (KJV)

In Revelation 7, the apostle John sees a great multitude from every nation standing before the throne of God. These are the redeemed who have come out of great tribulation, and Revelation 7:16 describes their blessed condition in God’s presence.

The verse uses symbolic language to describe the complete satisfaction and protection of God’s people. “They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more” signifies that every spiritual and physical need is fully met in God’s presence. The hunger and thirst are not merely physical but also spiritual: in the presence of God, there is no lack or unfulfilled desire. “Neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat” draws on biblical imagery where the sun and heat represent suffering, persecution, and hardship. This phrase promises freedom from all affliction and distress.

This language echoes Isaiah 49:10, where God promises to guide His people and lead them to springs of water, so they will not hunger or thirst nor be struck by the desert heat. In Revelation, that promise finds its ultimate fulfillment in the new creation, where every curse and trial is gone forever.

The immediate context reinforces this promise: God “shall dwell among them” and “shall wipe away all tears from their eyes” (Revelation 7:15, 17). The certainty of this hope rests on the faithfulness of God, who redeems His people by the Lamb and brings them to unbroken fellowship with Himself.

While the ultimate fulfillment of this verse lies in the future, it holds valuable lessons for believers today:

  • Trust in God’s provision: Just as the verse assures that the redeemed will hunger and thirst no more, we can trust that God will meet our needs in this life. He is our provider, and He knows what we require.

  • Seek spiritual fulfillment: As believers, we should strive to deepen our relationship with God and find spiritual satisfaction in Him. Our hunger and thirst for righteousness can be satisfied through prayer, studying the Word of God, and cultivating a life of obedience.

  • Find comfort in the hope of eternity: When faced with trials and suffering, we can find comfort in the hope of eternal life. The promise of Revelation 7:16 reminds us that there will be a day when all pain and suffering will cease, and we will experience eternal peace in the presence of God.

This verse offers a glimpse into the future hope of believers. It reassures them that in the presence of God, all their needs will be fully satisfied. It speaks of a state of complete contentment, free from physical and spiritual lack. It also highlights the idea that in God’s presence, all suffering will cease, and there will be everlasting peace and rest.
