Listen to this article

“And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

Understanding the Context:Revelation is a book of apocalyptic literature written by the apostle John. It contains a series of visions and symbolic language that reveal events concerning the end times and the ultimate victory of Christ over evil. Revelation 12 provides a glimpse into the cosmic conflict between the forces of good and evil.

Identifying the Key Figures:

  • The Dragon: This refers to Satan, the adversary of God, who seeks to oppose and destroy the work of God and His people.
  • The Woman: Symbolizes the faithful people of God, often associated with the people of Israel or the Church.
  • The Remnant of Her Seed: Represents a faithful group of believers who maintain their allegiance to God and His commandments.

Analyzing the Verse:“And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

  • The Dragon’s Anger: The dragon, Satan, is filled with anger towards the woman. This reveals his enmity towards God’s people and his desire to hinder and destroy them.
  • Making War with the Remnant: Satan wages war against the remnant of the woman’s seed. This suggests a time of intense spiritual conflict and opposition faced by believers.
  • The Characteristics of the Remnant: The remnant of the woman’s seed is described as those who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. They are faithful to God’s Word and hold firm to their faith in Jesus.

Application and Lessons:

  • Spiritual Warfare: This verse reminds believers that they are engaged in a spiritual battle against the forces of evil. Satan seeks to hinder and attack God’s people, but we can take comfort knowing that Jesus has already overcome the world (John 16:33).
  • Faithfulness to God’s Word: The remnant of the woman’s seed is characterized by their commitment to keeping God’s commandments. As believers, we should strive to obey and follow God’s Word in our lives.
  • Testimony of Jesus Christ: The remnant also possesses the testimony of Jesus Christ. This highlights the importance of sharing our faith and bearing witness to Jesus’ work of salvation in our lives.

In summary, Revelation 12:17 speaks of the dragon’s anger towards the faithful people of God, who are described as the remnant of the woman’s seed. Despite facing spiritual warfare, these believers remain steadfast in their commitment to God’s commandments and bear testimony to Jesus Christ. The verse serves as a reminder of the ongoing battle between good and evil and the importance of remaining faithful to God in the face of opposition.
