Revelation 12:11

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Revelation 12:11 (KJV)

This verse appears in the book of Revelation, the last book of the Bible, which contains visions and prophecies given to the apostle John. Revelation 12 describes a great cosmic battle between the forces of good and evil. The verse declares how believers overcome the accuser, identified earlier in the chapter as the dragon, that is, Satan or the devil (Revelation 12:9).

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb” points to the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus conquered sin, death, and the powers of darkness. His blood redeems believers, ransoms them from Satan’s hand, justifies them from all sin, and frees them from the charges and condemnation the enemy brings. Believers overcome not by their own strength but because of the victory won by Jesus’ shed blood.

“And by the word of their testimony” shows that believers also overcome by publicly declaring their faith in Jesus Christ and sharing the transformative work He has done in their lives. This testimony is a powerful weapon in spiritual battle; it encourages and strengthens other believers and can lead others to embrace Christ.

“And they loved not their lives unto the death” describes the dedication of those who overcome. They are willing to endure persecution, suffering, and even martyrdom for the sake of their faith. They prioritize allegiance to Christ above earthly life, recognizing that true life and eternal victory come through Him.

Revelation 12:11 encourages believers to stand firm in faith, relying on Jesus’ sacrificial death, speaking boldly of what Christ has done, and remaining committed to Him even when following Him costs dearly. It reassures Christians that the enemy’s accusations are defeated by the Lamb’s blood and by their faithful testimony.

This verse calls each believer to examine whether they trust more in Christ’s finished work than in their own efforts, whether they are willing to speak of His grace, and whether they hold their lives loosely for His sake. The promise of overcoming is sure for those who rest in the Lamb and follow Him faithfully.
