Listen to this article

“And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.”

Context:The book of Revelation, written by the Apostle John, is a prophetic book filled with vivid imagery and symbolism. It reveals the future events surrounding the second coming of Jesus Christ and the ultimate victory of God over evil. Revelation 16 describes the pouring out of the seven bowls or vials of God’s wrath upon the earth.

The Seventh Bowl:In Revelation 16:17, we encounter the pouring out of the seventh and final bowl of God’s wrath. Each bowl represents a specific judgment upon the wicked and unrepentant world. When the seventh angel pours out his vial into the air, it signifies the culmination of God’s judgment upon the earth.

The Voice from Heaven:As the seventh angel pours out his vial, a great voice emerges from the temple of heaven, from the throne, declaring, “It is done.” This voice signifies the completion of God’s divine plan and the fulfillment of His purposes. It emphasizes that God’s judgment has reached its climax, and His righteous will has been accomplished.

The Divine Announcement:The phrase “It is done” is significant in various ways. It indicates that the final stage of God’s judgment has come to pass. It signifies the end of God’s wrath upon the wicked and the beginning of the establishment of His eternal kingdom. Additionally, it echoes the words of Jesus on the cross when He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30), signifying the completion of His redemptive work.

Application:Revelation 16:17 reminds us of the certainty of God’s judgment and the fulfilment of His promises. It assures us that, despite the chaos and evil present in the world, God remains in control and will ultimately bring justice and restoration. This verse encourages believers to remain steadfast in their faith, knowing that God’s plan will come to fruition and that His kingdom will be established.

In conclusion, Revelation 16:17 portrays the pouring out of the seventh bowl of God’s wrath and the declaration from heaven that “It is done.” It signifies the completion of God’s judgment and the fulfilment of His divine plan. This verse serves as a reminder of the certainty of God’s promises and encourages believers to trust in His sovereignty and ultimate victory over evil.
