Revelation 16:17

And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

Revelation 16:17 (KJV)

The book of Revelation, written by the Apostle John, is a prophetic book filled with vivid imagery and symbolism. It reveals the future events surrounding the second coming of Jesus Christ and the ultimate victory of God over evil. Revelation 16 describes the pouring out of the seven bowls or vials of God’s wrath upon the earth.

In Revelation 16:17, the seventh and final bowl of God’s wrath is poured out. Each bowl represents a specific judgment upon the wicked and unrepentant world. When the seventh angel pours out his vial into the air, it signifies the culmination of God’s judgment upon the earth. The air is notably associated with the domain of Satan, who is called “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2), making this final judgment a direct confrontation with the spiritual forces of evil.

As the seventh angel pours out his vial, a great voice emerges from the temple of heaven, from the throne, declaring, “It is done.” This voice originates from the very presence of God, indicating divine authority and finality. The declaration signifies the completion of God’s divine plan and the fulfillment of His purposes. It emphasizes that God’s judgment has reached its climax, and His righteous will has been accomplished.

The phrase “It is done” indicates that the final stage of God’s judgment has come to pass. It signifies the end of God’s wrath upon the wicked and the beginning of the establishment of His eternal kingdom. Additionally, it echoes the words of Jesus on the cross when He said, “It is finished” (John 19:30), signifying the completion of His redemptive work. This connection links the completion of redemption with the completion of judgment, showing that both are part of God’s sovereign plan.

Revelation 16:17 reminds us of the certainty of God’s judgment and the fulfillment of His promises. It assures us that, despite the chaos and evil present in the world, God remains in control and will ultimately bring justice and restoration. This verse encourages believers to remain steadfast in their faith, knowing that God’s plan will come to fruition and that His kingdom will be established.

The declaration from heaven that “It is done” serves as a powerful reminder of the certainty of God’s promises. It calls believers to trust in His sovereignty and ultimate victory over evil, even when circumstances seem uncertain. As the seventh bowl brings God’s wrath to its conclusion, we are assured that His purposes will be accomplished, and His judgment is certain and complete.
