Acts 20:31
Therefore watch, and remember that by the space of three yeeres, I ceased not to warne euery one night and day with teares. Acts 20:31 (KJV)
The Importance of Watchfulness: The verse begins with the word “Therefore,” indicating that it is connected to the previous context. In the preceding verses Paul warns the Ephesian elders about false teachers and wolves who would arise from among them, seeking to distort the truth and draw people away from the faith. In light of this, Paul emphasizes the need for watchfulness. As believers we are called to be alert and watchful, guarding our hearts and minds against false teachings and influences that can lead us astray.
The Power of Remembering: Paul also exhorts the Ephesian elders to remember. Remembering is an essential aspect of our faith journey. It helps us recall God’s faithfulness, His promises, and the lessons we have learned from His Word. Remembering strengthens our faith and provides guidance and encouragement, especially in times of difficulty. Paul likely wanted the Ephesian elders to remember the teachings and warnings he had imparted to them during his time with them.
Paul’s Faithful Ministry: The verse highlights the dedication and commitment of Paul’s ministry. He mentions that for three years he did not cease to warn you every night and day with tears. This demonstrates the depth of Paul’s love and concern for the Ephesian believers. He was deeply invested in their spiritual well‑being and was willing to go to great lengths to ensure their growth and protection. Paul’s tears indicate his genuine compassion and burden for their spiritual welfare.
