Acts 5:25

Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.

Acts 5:25 (KJV)

The religious authorities had arrested the apostles for preaching and performing miracles in Jesus’ name. During the night, an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and commanded them to go and speak in the temple. At daybreak they obeyed, and the council, finding the prison securely locked but empty, received the report in Acts 5:25 that the men they had imprisoned were standing in the temple and teaching the people.

The report in Acts 5:25 highlights the apostles’ boldness. Despite imprisonment and threats, they continued preaching the Gospel without fear. Their release was not for their own safety but to continue the mission Jesus had given them. The temple, a central gathering place for worship, provided a public platform where many people would hear their message.

The angel’s command in Acts 5:20 to “Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life” directly connects to the apostles’ obedience in Acts 5:25. Their teaching in the temple fulfilled that command and demonstrated their unwavering commitment to God’s mission. The following verse, Acts 5:26, notes that the captain brought them without violence because the people feared them, indicating popular support for the apostles’ public teaching.

Believers today can learn from the apostles’ example to stand firm in faith and boldly share the message of Jesus, even in the face of opposition. God’s supernatural intervention on their behalf shows that He is able to deliver His people when they are obedient to His calling. The apostles’ strategic use of the temple reminds us to take advantage of available platforms and venues to proclaim the truth of Jesus Christ.

Acts 5:25 portrays the apostles’ boldness, God’s intervention, and their commitment to God’s mission. It encourages believers to be courageous in their faith, trust in God’s protection, and faithfully fulfill their calling to proclaim the Gospel.
