Colossians 3:17

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Paul wrote this letter to the Colossian believers while in prison, addressing practical issues in their church. In the preceding verses, he urges them to put on the new self and to let the peace of Christ rule in their hearts. Meaning

The phrase “whatsoever ye do in word or deed” is comprehensive. It covers every form of speech and every action, including preaching, conversation, singing, and all ordinary duties of life. Nothing is outside the scope of this command. “Do all in the name of the Lord Jesus” means acting on His authority, according to His will, and for His glory. It acknowledges His lordship over every area of life, not just religious activities. The final phrase, “giving thanks to God and the Father by him,” reminds believers that gratitude to the Father is offered through Jesus Christ, who is the mediator of the new covenant. This thanksgiving is not an occasional addition but a constant attitude that accompanies all we do.
