And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

Daniel faced a life-threatening situation because of his faithfulness to God. King Darius the Mede had been tricked into issuing a decree that no one should pray to any god or man except him for thirty days. Daniel, however, continued to pray to the Lord three times a day, as he had always done. His enemies reported his disobedience, and the king, though he valued Daniel, was bound by his own irrevocable law and reluctantly sentenced him to the lions’ den.
