Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

Context
The book of Daniel recounts the story of a young Jewish exile who found favor with Babylonian and Medo-Persian kings due to his wisdom and integrity. In Daniel 6, Daniel’s enemies plotted against him, knowing he was a man of prayer who would not compromise his devotion to God. King Darius was tricked into issuing a decree that anyone who prayed to any god or man except the king would be thrown into the den of lions. Daniel, faithful to his God, continued to pray three times a day and was cast into the den as a result.
After a sleepless night, the king hurried to the den at dawn and called out to Daniel in anguish. Daniel’s reply, recorded in this verse, is his first recorded words after being rescued. His greeting, “O king, live for ever,” was a standard expression of respect and well-wishing toward a monarch in the ancient Near East, used elsewhere in Daniel (Daniel 3:9, 6:6).
Meaning
Daniel’s words reflect his respect and humility toward the king. He addresses the king as “O king” and expresses his desire for the king’s long life by saying, “live for ever.” Despite the king’s inadvertent role in Daniel’s predicament, Daniel does not harbor bitterness or resentment. Instead, he models humility and grace by extending well wishes to the king.
