Daniel 7:1

Posted on 18 May at 14:57

“In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.”

Historical Context:The verse mentions the first year of Belshazzar, who was the son of Nabonidus and the last king of Babylon. This places the timeframe of the vision during the Babylonian captivity when Daniel was a prominent figure in the Babylonian court.

The verse states that Daniel had a dream and visions while he was lying on his bed. God chose to communicate with Daniel through this supernatural means. These visions were not merely ordinary dreams but divinely-inspired messages that conveyed important revelations about the future.

Recording and Summarizing the Dream:Daniel, as an obedient servant of God, wrote down the dream and then proceeded to recount and explain its meaning. By doing so, he ensured that the content of the vision would be preserved and understood by future generations. The subsequent verses in Daniel 7 provide a detailed account of the dream and the interpretation of its symbolic imagery.

Overall, Daniel 7:1 sets the stage for the prophetic visions that Daniel received and highlights the significance of these divine revelations. It emphasizes the role of Daniel as a faithful messenger and steward of God’s message, entrusted with the responsibility to record and share these visions with others.

It is worth noting that the following verses in Daniel 7 elaborate on the content of the dream and its interpretation, which includes the rise and fall of various kingdoms, the emergence of powerful beasts, and the establishment of God’s eternal kingdom. These subsequent verses offer a broader understanding of the prophetic message conveyed through Daniel’s dream.
