Deuteronomy 1:7

Turne you, and take your iourney, and goe to the mount of the Amorites, and vnto all the places nigh thereunto, in the plaine, in the hills, and in the vale, and in the South, and by the sea side, to the land of the Canaanites, and vnto Lebanon, vnto the great riuer, the riuer Euphrates. Deuteronomy is the fifth book of the Bible and is attributed to Moses. It is primarily a record of Moses’ speeches to the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land.

Moses commands the Israelites to “turn” and begin their journey toward the promised land, marking a pivotal shift after forty years of wandering in the wilderness due to their disobedience and lack of faith.

Moses specifies the mount of the Amorites and surrounding areas— the plain, the hills, and the vale—as well as the southern regions and the sea side, indicating the whole territory of Canaan that stretches from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Euphrates River in the east, with Lebanon as the northern boundary.

Beyond the literal instruction, the journey symbolizes the spiritual pilgrimage of believers today, reminding us that God calls us to turn from our old ways, leave the wilderness of sin, and pursue the promises and blessings He offers.

The Israelites’ success depended on their obedience and trust in God’s promises, and likewise contemporary believers are encouraged to follow divine guidance faithfully, recognizing that obedience and trust are essential for experiencing God’s blessings and fulfilling His purpose.
