Listen to this article

“And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,”

Context:The book of Esther tells the story of a young Jewish girl named Esther who becomes queen of Persia and plays a pivotal role in saving her people from destruction. The verse in question is part of a larger passage that lists the names of ten sons of Haman, a wicked official who plotted to annihilate the Jews. These names are mentioned in the context of recounting the events of the day when the Jews gained the upper hand over their enemies.

The Significance of the Names:Parshandatha, Dalphon, and Aspatha are three of the ten sons of Haman. While the Bible does not provide extensive details about each individual, their mention is significant as it highlights the downfall of Haman’s entire family. This serves as a reminder of the consequences that can befall those who seek to harm God’s people.

God’s Deliverance and Justice:The mention of these names in the book of Esther emphasizes God’s faithfulness in delivering His people from their enemies. The events described in the book illustrate how God orchestrated the downfall of Haman and his family, protecting the Jewish people from destruction. It serves as a powerful reminder that God is the ultimate judge and protector of His people.

Lessons for Believers:The story of Esther and the defeat of Haman and his sons provide several lessons for believers today:

  • a. God’s Timing: The book of Esther highlights the importance of trusting in God’s timing. Although it seemed like a dire situation, God strategically placed Esther in a position of influence at the right time to save her people. This teaches us to have faith that God is working behind the scenes, even when we cannot see it.
  • b. Courage and Obedience: Esther demonstrated great courage by risking her life to approach the king and advocate for her people. Her obedience to God’s calling serves as an example for believers today. We are called to stand up for justice, even when it requires bravery and personal sacrifice.
  • c. God’s Sovereignty: The downfall of Haman and his sons reveals God’s sovereignty and His ability to turn evil intentions into eventual justice. This reminds believers that God is in control, even in the face of adversity, and that He will ultimately bring about justice.

In summary, Esther 9:7 mentions the names of three of Haman’s sons, emphasizing the downfall of Haman’s family and the deliverance of the Jewish people. This verse reminds us of God’s faithfulness, His perfect timing, and the importance of courage and obedience in standing up for justice. It also reinforces the concept of God’s sovereignty and His ability to bring about justice even in challenging circumstances.
