Exodus 26:10

And thou shalt make fifty loops on the edge of the one curtain that is outmost in the coupling, and fifty loops in the edge of the curtain which coupleth the second.

Context

Exodus 26 records God’s instructions to Moses for building the tabernacle, the portable sanctuary where Israel worshipped during the wilderness journey. The inner curtains were made of fine linen woven with blue, purple, and scarlet threads, each twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits wide, joined to form the walls (Exodus 26:1-6). Then God commanded eleven curtains of goats’ hair for an outer covering (Exodus 26:7-8).

Meaning

Verse 10 specifies the method of joining these two sets of curtains. Fifty loops were to be made on the edge of the outermost curtain of the first set, and fifty loops on the edge of the corresponding curtain of the second set. These loops, likely made of blue material, were aligned so the curtains could be coupled together. This system allowed the tabernacle to be assembled and disassembled easily as the Israelites traveled.
