Exodus 6:18

And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: and the years of the life of Kohath were an hundred thirty and three years.

Exodus 6:18 (KJV)

This verse belongs to the genealogy of Moses and Aaron. Kohath was a son of Levi and a grandson of Jacob. His descendants formed one of the three main divisions of the Levites, together with the Gershonites and the Merarites.

The verse names four sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. Amram became the father of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, who led Israel out of Egypt. The record of Kohath’s 133 years shows the longevity of that era and helps anchor the timeline of early Israelite history. This careful record also shows that God values each individual life and its place in His purposes.

The same list of Kohath’s sons appears in 1 Chronicles 6:18, and the family of the Hebronites is mentioned in Numbers 26:58. The Kohathites carried the most sacred tabernacle objects, as described in Numbers 3. This genealogy confirms the credentials of Moses and Aaron as God’s chosen leaders, grounding their authority in the promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It also shows how God preserved the priestly and Levitical lines through generations.

Genealogies are not mere lists. They show God’s faithfulness across generations and His care for individual lives. God worked through ordinary families to accomplish redemption, and He still works through family lines and personal circumstances today. The transmission of faith and calling from one generation to the next is a vital part of His plan.

This verse invites trust in God’s quiet, detailed work. The names and ages recorded here remind us that no life is too small for His purpose. He preserves His people and prepares each generation for the role He has planned. We can trust that He is at work in our own family lines and life circumstances, even when we cannot see the full picture.
