Ezekiel 47:17

“And the border from the sea shall be Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.”

Context:The book of Ezekiel is a prophetic book in the Old Testament. In this particular chapter, Ezekiel receives a vision from God regarding the future restoration of the land and the temple in Jerusalem.

Geographical Setting:In this verse, the prophet Ezekiel describes the northern border of the land. He mentions several locations, including Hazar-enan, Damascus, and Hamath. These places were well-known in Ezekiel’s time and were part of the region surrounding Israel.

Symbolic Meaning:It’s important to note that Ezekiel often uses geographical descriptions symbolically. The land boundaries described here represent the future division and allocation of the land among the tribes of Israel after their return from exile. This vision speaks of the restoration of the nation of Israel and the establishment of God’s kingdom.

Significance of the North:In biblical symbolism, the north often represents a place of judgment and power. In this vision, the north side is emphasized, suggesting the significance of God’s authority and sovereignty over the restored land and the people. It also signifies the blessings that would flow from the presence of God’s kingdom.

The Promised Land:Throughout the Bible, the Promised Land holds great significance. It was the land that God had promised to give to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In this vision, Ezekiel is reassured that God’s promises will be fulfilled, and the land will be restored to the people of Israel.

Spiritual Application:While this verse has a specific historical and prophetic context, we can also draw some spiritual lessons from it. Just as God promised the restoration of the land to Israel, we can trust in God’s faithfulness to fulfil His promises in our lives. It reminds us that God is in control and has a plan for His people, even in times of exile or difficulty.

  • Summary:Ezekiel 47:17 in the King James Version describes the northern border of the land in a vision given to Ezekiel. It symbolically represents the restoration of the nation of Israel and the establishment of God’s kingdom. We can find encouragement in this verse, knowing that God is faithful to His promises and has a plan for our lives.
