Ezekiel 5:5
Thus saith the Lord God; This is Jerusalem: I have set it in the midst of the nations and countries that are round about her.

Context
The book of Ezekiel is set during the Babylonian exile in the 6th century BCE. The prophet Ezekiel was among the Israelites taken captive to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar. In this verse, God speaks to Ezekiel and gives him a message about Jerusalem, the capital of Judah. The words “Thus saith the Lord God” mark this as a direct divine oracle, not Ezekiel’s own opinion.
Meaning
God declares that He has set Jerusalem in the midst of the nations and countries that surround her. Historically, Jerusalem held a strategic location in the ancient world, situated at the crossroads of important trade routes. It was a city of great significance both geographically and spiritually. This central placement was not accidental; it was God’s sovereign design, making Jerusalem a focal point among the nations.

By placing Jerusalem in such a central position, God intended it to be a city of influence and significance.
